PALHEIRO GOLF CLUB – SHORT PRESENTATION

Clube Palheiro Golfe is a non-profit sports association, established on January 20, 1998.

The Club’s headquarters are located in the Clubhouse of Sociedade Turística Palheiro Golfe S.A., Rua do Balancal, no29, São Gonçalo, 9060-414 Funchal. The Club does not have its own course, but benefits from an agreement signed with the Sociedade Turística Palheiro Golfe, S.A., which guarantees, to Club members, free access to the magnificent Palheiro golf course.

The Club was born from the desire to form a sports center with the aim of promoting and encouraging the practice of golf.

The Club provides an informal and pleasant environment for its members, present both in tournaments, which are played regularly, and in fun social events that are held periodically.

The Club currently brings together about 2 hundred members of various nationalities residing in the Region and also foreigners.

Around 40 tournaments are organized annually, the best known being the Palheiro Open, Royal Savoy, Birthday Salvation, Club Championship, Moynihans Open, Bola Amarela as well as the Monthly Medal and Stableford Tournaments, sponsored by Loja do Vinho. The Match Plays played between members throughout the year are also very popular.

In 2009, O Clube created the Training Academy for young people between 4 and 21 years old. This academy is intended to promote golf to the younger generation and eventually provide young people with an opportunity to pursue a career in golf.

The Academy’s objectives are to develop and improve young people’s golf technique, to obtain a handicap, so that they can also participate in competitions and tournaments, but, above all, to help them grow in learning good values for life.

PALHEIRO GOLF

Palheiro Golf, on Madeira Island, is one of the most beautiful golf courses in Europe.

Adjacent to the five-star Casa Velha do Palheiro hotel – a member of the Relais & Châteaux chain – and an integral part of the magnificent Palheiro Estate, the emblematic golf course, par 72, with 18 holes, winds through an untouched environment, full of maritime pines and botanical forests, adorned by exuberant subtropical vegetation.

At about 500 m above sea level, the location is blessed with incredible views of the mountainous landscape of Madeira and the immensity of the Atlantic Ocean. Snuggled further down is the island’s capital, Funchal, some ten minutes away.

Designed by the famous golf architect, Cabell Robinson, this pictures route, whose charm remains throughout the year, makes the most of the typical rugged Madeiran terrain, with ridges and deep valleys providing an enticing challenge for even the most experienced golfers.
